Thailand: Deputy Prime Minister Mandates Strict Data Protection Compliance for Mobile Devices as PDPC Strengthens User Privacy Measures

Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) is stepping up its game to safeguard user privacy on mobile devices.

The Deputy Prime Minister called for strict enforcement of personal data protection laws across all brands of mobile phones and tablets, announced on 18 January 2025. Major distributors like Oppo and Realme are being closely monitored to prevent data breaches and the installation of illegal apps.

To tackle this, the PDPC is bringing together key players, including mobile distributors and agencies like the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the Bank of Thailand. The goal? To strengthen privacy protections, set clear security guidelines, and ensure all devices on the market meet data security standards.
